Phil Baldino, Teacher:

Since 1975, Mr. Baldino has taught hundreds of Portland area musicians learn to play the clarinet, saxophone or flute. Private lessons are tailored to each student's needs and personal goals. He teaches all levels from beginning through advanced, in classical and commercial music idioms. Convenient lesson times for home schoolers' schedules.

His students have gained numerous honors at the District and State Level Solo Contests. They have performed in Metropolitan Youth Symphony and the Portland Youth Philharmonic and soloed with the Vancouver Symphony, the MetroArts Young Artist Concerts at the Schnitzer, and the KBPS Mothers' Day Recital. Students have gone on to music schools across the country including Indiana University, San Francisco Conservatory, Boston University, Berklee School of Music, and the University of North Texas.

Mr. Baldino brings with him many years of performing with many varied groups including the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, Portland Opera Orchestra, Ballet West, Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestra, many Big Bands including the Woody Hite Big Band, Young Audiences, the Hester Street Klezmer Band, and the Columbia Saxophone Quartet. He also enjoys playing chamber music in diverse styles with a variety of other instruments for weddings and other events.

Mr. Baldino has played over forty of the touring Broadway shows, including Beauty and the Beast, Music Man, Annie, West Side Story, Wicked, The Producers, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Chicago, Spamalot and Sweeney Todd. In those performances, he displays his versatility as a "doubler", playing clarinets, bass clarinet, flute, alto flute, piccolo, alto and/or soprano sax. He has also played with Doc Severinsen, Johnny Mathis, The Supremes, Maureen McGovern and other touring stage shows..

Phil Baldino, Experience:

Mr. Baldino studied with top studio musicians including Lew Tabackin, Franklin Stokes and Reginald Jackson. Locally, he studied with Eddie Flenner, Catherine Paladino, John May and Dawn Weiss. He also played with the Woody James LAVC Jazz Band in Los Angeles.

Mr. Baldino has taught both in private and public school classrooms, and as adjunct instructor for Warner Pacific College, Concordia College, University of Portland, Clackamas Community College, Mt Hood Community College and Reed College.

Phil and family

Phil Baldino, Community:

A Portland native, Phil also married a Portland native, violinist, and together raised two children in the metro area. He is a longtime member of American Federation of Musicians, Local 99. When not playing music, Phil likes to be playing tennis, cooking, fishing, or beachcombing.
